With
almost 70 golfers of various ethnic and professional
backgrounds, the first CARE Egypt Spring Swing proved to
be a huge success. The varied level of green experience
amongst the players provided fun and challenge to all,
and the Texas scramble format allowed for fast and
smooth play, with the first team finishing the round in
three hours and the last in a little over four hours.
The
"Dream Team" was determined, showing off handicaps which
ranged from zero to eight. However, the American Apache
spirit fought for first place beating the four Egyptian
stars. Less than one stroke separated the first three
teams playing in a four-player scramble with 10%
combined handicaps. The fun continued on to the 19th hole with a great dinner
prepared by the JW Marriott. During the
ceremony, a brief video entitled “I Am
Powerful” was shown highlighting CARE’s work
around the world and the organization’s efforts
to end poverty and empower the poor.
The golfers also got a
chance to participate in a live, very live,
auction conducted by Mr. Steve Riddell. Many
wonderful prizes were donated for the cause. All proceeds from the
Spring Swing will support
Awareness
Against AIDS (AAA) project. This project’s goal is to maintain a low prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in Egypt through addressing the right to risk-reduction, prevention information, and access to appropriate methods. The project works closely with the corporate sector to spread awareness amongst youth, women, health care providers and other community members in Egypt.
