CARE began its activities in Egypt with a nationwide school meal program that reached three million children annually from 1954 to 1967.

CARE expanded its program in 1974 to include support to fishing communities in Lake Nasser and South Sinai areas, providing technical assistance to farming cooperatives in North Sinai and Upper Egypt, and establishing community management loan funds in 120 community development associations in Aswan, Qena, Sohag, and Fayoum.

Over the last 15 years CARE Egypt has focused on long term processes that involve civil society organizations in a variety of ways, from direct service delivery to networking, advocacy, and rights awareness.
